- Reported mortality rates in patients with cirrhosis undergoing various elective noncardiac and nontransplant surgical procedures range from 6% to 27% (in comparison with 1.1% for noncirrhotic patients). Wide range of mortality is related to severity of the disease, type of surgery, patient demographics, and expertise of the surgical, anesthetic, and ICU teams.
