Anesthesia for Spine Surgery - Disposition

Immediate postsurgical care is dependent upon procedure and patient comorbidities. For all patients, frequent neurologic checks are preferred to assess for development of edema, compressive hematomas, or vascular compromise. Factors determining disposition to an ICU include extensive surgery, significant blood loss, significant facial and airway edema, and requirement for postoperative ventilation and endotracheal intubation to maintain airway patency.
