Drug-Induced Adverse Hematological Interactions/Reactions

First Things First (assess & treat for the following)

• Does pt have any hematologic abnormalities that require immediate attention?
  • Anemia: Hgb < 10 g/dL in presence of ongoing bleeding, hemolysis, hemodynamic alterations, myocardial ischemia, mental status changes, hypoxemia or decreased oxygen delivery
    • Hgb < 7 g/dL
  • Cyanosis or decreased oxyhemoglobin desaturation consistent w/ methemoglobinemia
  • Neutropenia w/ absolute neutrophil count < 500-1,000/mm³ w/ fever or hypotension
  • Thrombocytopenia < 50,000/mm³ w/ bleeding, < 10,000 mm³
  • Coagulopathy w/ bleeding
  • Intracranial bleeding
  • GI bleeding
  • Pulmonary hemorrhage
