- LSD is an indole derivative that acts as both serotonin agonist & antagonist, w/ strong hallucinogenic properties.
- Abused for changes in thought, perception, consciousness
- ED visits are usually the result of panic reactions, massive ingestions or accidental ingestions.
- Severe anxiety & agitation may occur.
- Treat w/ reassurance, minimal stimuli.
- May respond to benzodiazepines
- Massive ingestions may result in coma, respiratory arrest, HTN, coagulopathy.
- Maintain airway patency; support w/ oxygenation/ventilation if necessary.
- Treat hypertensive emergencies w/ sodium nitroprusside.
