Diuretics are used to increase UOP (Table 4.4), treat hypertension, and manage electrolyte, fluid, and acid–base disturbances. The use of diuretics (e.g., furosemide) has been shown to decrease the duration of oliguria and the need for hemodialysis but has no effect on mortality or recovery from AKI.
