  1. Reported mortality rates in patients with cirrhosis undergoing various nontransplant surgical procedures range from 8.3% to 25% (in comparison with 1.1% for noncirrhotic patients). Wide range of mortality is related to severity of the disease, type of surgery, patient demographics, and expertise of the surgical, anesthetic, and ICU teams.
