Etiologies

Common causes include excessive doses of insulin or oral hypoglycemic agents. Uncommon causes of hypoglycemia include pancreatic adenoma (insulinoma) or carcinoma, cirrhosis, hypopituitarism, adrenal insufficiency, hepatoma, sarcoma, ethanol ingestion, and renal failure (reduced insulin clearance).
