Specific Considerations With Pulmonary Disease - Obesity
Obesity is defined as the abnormal accumulation of excessive fat, leading to risks for a patient’s health. The ratio of weight to the square of height, known as BMI, is a widely used anthropometric measurement, with 30 kg/m 2 being the typical threshold for the definition of obesity. Severe, or class III, obesity is defined as a BMI of 40 kg/m2 or higher. Morbid obesity (BMI 40-49.9 kg/m2) and super morbid obesity (BMI ≥ 50 kg/m2) are often associated with multisystem disease.
