General anesthesia (GA) is the most commonly employed technique.
- Advantages particularly relevant to abdominal surgery include airway protection and control of ventilation parameters.
- Disadvantages include loss of airway reflexes, which increases the risk of aspiration during routine or emergency surgery, and potential adverse hemodynamic consequences.
