Subjects should receive a 150- to 200-g per day carbohydrate diet for at least 3 days before the test. A 75-g glucose dose is dissolved in 300 mLof water for adults (1.75 g/kg for children) and given after an overnight fast. Serial determinations of plasma or serum venous blood glucoses are obtained at baseline, 1 hour, and 2 hours.
