Organism
Escherichia coli , Diarrheagenic
Escherichia coli is a member of genus Escherichia within the family Enterobacteriaceae.
E. coli can be characterized by shared liposaccharide (O) and flagellar (H) antigens that define serogroups (O antigen only) or serotypes (O and H antigens).
More than 175 O antigens and 53 H antigens have been recognized, but only a few serotype combinations are associated with diarrheal diseases.
