First Things First (assess & treat for the following)
- Risks for TB are defined based on social, economic, and medical factors.
- 80% of patients manifest TB as pulmonary disease, though disease can occur anywhere in the body.
- If TB is suspected or confirmed, 4 drugs are used initially until the mycobacterial susceptibilities are known.
- Multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) and extended drug-resistant TB (XDR-TB) have emerged and have complicated treatment strategies.
