First Things First (assess & treat for the following)
Hyperthyroidism
- Does pt have evidence of shock?
- Severe hypovolemia or high-output cardiac failure
- Does pt have an arrhythmia?
Hypothyroidism
- ABCs
- Look for:
- Shock
- Arrhythmias
- Coma (“myxedema” or “myxedema coma” is a life-threatening complication of severe hypothyroidism)
