The Post-anesthesia Care Unit - Respiratory and Airway Complications
Respiratory complications occur in 2% to 19% of postoperative patients, with atelectasis and alveolar hypoventilation being the most commons causes of these events. Additional causes of arterial hypoxemia include upper airway obstruction, laryngospasm, bronchospasm, and aspiration.
