Acute Hepatic Failure
First Things First
- ABCs
- Grade 3-4 encephalopathy: cerebral edema, or substance ingestion, or shock
- Mental status exam and send lab studies ASAP for appropriate triage to ICU or transplant center
- Rapid evaluation for etiology
- If acetaminophen (APAP) toxicity is suspected, do NOT delay treatment.
