    • Volume depletion
    • Impaired erythropoiesis
    • Endothelial dysfunction
    • Increased secretion of pro-inflammatory mediators
  • Potential consequences of untreated hyperglycemia
    • Sepsis
    • Decreased kidney function
    • Critical illness polyneuropathy
    • Respiratory failure
    • Increased mortality
